Since our first successful PET bottle sale in June, Trash Waste Solutions has continued to make encouraging progress in Manado, Indonesia.
What started with collecting and selling PET bottles is gradually developing into a broader local recycling network. Together with our team and volunteers in Manado, we are working to establish more collection points and involve schools, businesses and other local partners.
Expanding Our Collection Network
One of our main priorities is to increase the number of collection points across Manado. New locations are being identified, with a particular focus on schools, hotels and businesses.
Every additional collection point makes it easier for people to participate and helps us collect larger and more consistent quantities of recyclable plastic.
Building Local Partnerships
An important part of our approach is cooperation with local institutions and organisations. Discussions and activities with educational institutions and other local partners are helping us explore how collected plastic can not only be gathered and sold, but potentially processed and reused locally.
Our team has also established contact with the Philippine Consulate General in Manado and presented our activities and goals. Such connections can help increase awareness and open doors for future cooperation.
Strengthening Our Volunteer Community
Our local volunteer network is growing as well. Dila and Daniel have expressed their interest in becoming more actively involved in the organisation, and we plan to hold regular meetings with them.
At the same time, we are exploring further connections with local organisations and community networks, including Rotary, to broaden the support for our activities in Manado.
The Next Step: From Collection to Circular Solutions
Our long-term vision goes beyond collecting plastic waste.
We want to explore opportunities to create local circular solutions in which collected plastic can be sorted, processed and potentially transformed into new products. This would allow more of the value created through recycling to remain within the local community.
There is still a lot of work ahead, but every new collection point, every kilogram of plastic collected and every new partnership brings us one step closer to our goal:
Less plastic waste in the environment – and more value for local communities.
